FESTIVAL 2009

The Finals Competition of the Classical Greek Festival 2009 will be held on Saturday 2nd May at the Mermaid Theatre & Conference Centre, Blackfriars, London.

Heats will be taking place during February/March 2009 at the following locations:

Birmingham - March 15th

East Grinstead - March 29th

Weymouth OR Yeovil - TBC

Northampton - TBC

Festival Syllabus

1 All dances must be based on the movements of the Ruby Ginner Method of Classical Greek Dance

2 All dances in all sections should be costumed as appropriate

3 Competitors should arrive in plenty of time. Absentees risk disqualification

4 Cassette tapes, compact discs or mini discs (check with regional organisers as to the equipment available) are acceptable, and must be clearly marked with the competitors name and number, and in the case of tapes, set in the correct position.

5 All music must be handed into the ‘Tape Collection Point’, please follow the instructions issued by the heat/finals organisers.

6 The Festival does not accept liability for the infringement of copyright or performing rights arising out of any competitors accompaniment or performance. Teachers and choreographers are advised that they are responsible for seeking permission to re-record from the recording companies concerned.

7 Titles: Main titles are limited to 10 words. However, a short synopsis maybe submitted if necessary on the day of the competition.

8 Time limits for dances MUST NOT be exceeded, and you are reminded that an official timekeeper will check times at the heats and the finals, and that any dances exceeding the time limit will be disqualified.

9 The Committee reserve the right to amalgamate classes where necessary.

10 The stage and stage wings are out of bounds to all except authorised persons and competitors. This is due to Fire Regulations and Insurance requirements and no exceptions can be made.

11 Winning dances from previous years may not be performed by the same competitor/s in subsequent festivals. No competitor may enter the same dance in more than one section or in more than one heat.


12 The taking of photographs or video and the use of any recording equipment is strictly prohibited at the heats and the finals.

13 The age of the competitor on 1st January 2007 will determine the section in which the dance should be placed.

15 Certificates will be awarded to all competitors at the Heats.

16 It is the responsibility of the teacher to ensure that they obtain entry forms for the heats, and that these are returned to the regional organiser, together with the correct fees, by the closing date as published in the front of this syllabus.

17 Late entries will not be accepted.

18 Teachers must sign the enclosed form confirming that they have read and understand the terms & conditions of entry set out here, and return this with their entries. Failure to do so will mean entries from that teacher will not be accepted.

19 A disclaimer form MUST be completed for every child competing in the heats. All forms must be returned with the entry forms to the heat organiser so that a register can be compiled. The Classical Greek Dance Association Faculty can accept no responsibility or liability for the supervision of performers during the heat or finals of this event. I enclose the Disclaimer Form for you to copy as many time as you require.

20 Those awarded a Finalists place in a section at a regional heat will be invited to dance at the Finals. Entry forms will be sent directly to the teachers of qualifying dancers within 2 weeks of the date of their regional heat.

21 The adjudicators reserve the right to withhold any award if, in their opinion, the required standard is not achieved.

22 The decision of the adjudicator is final and no discussion or correspondence may ensue.

IMPORTANT NOTES REGARDING THE FINALS

a) It is the responsibility of the teacher to ensure that they obtain entry forms for the finals, if these have not been received within 2 weeks of the qualifying heat. These must be returned to the administrator, together with the correct fees, by the closing date.

b) Late entries will not be accepted.

c) Teachers must sign the form confirming that they have read and understood the terms & conditions of entry set out here, and return this with their entries. Failure to do so will mean entries from that teacher will not be accepted.

ALSO, to comply with Health and Safety & Fire regulations, all dancers are required to sign in on arrival at the theatre and are t o be accompanied only by registered chaperones. Teachers are responsible for returning to the administrator a complete list of dancers and chaperones by the closing date. Failure to do so may result in refusal by the theatre management f or entry into the building.
